Worship Preparation: April 21, 2019

Read the sermon text: Luke 23:50-24:12

Read the sermon summary: This Sunday will conclude our series of sermons from the Apostles’ Creed concerning the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. While it is important to affirm the reality of Jesus’ resurrection (he was truly dead and he truly came back to life), we also want to consider the theological significance of his resurrection. What do we gain from an event that took place almost two thousand years ago? In this sermon we will consider how the resurrection gives us a new relationship, new life, and the promise of new bodies. In preparation for the sermon read the following passages of Scripture: Romans 4:23-25; 1 Corinthians 15; Ephesians 2:1-10 (note especially v. 6).

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

O Praise The Name (Anástasis)
I cast my mind to Calvary
Where Jesus bled and died for me
I see His wounds His hands His feet
My Saviour on that cursed tree
His body bound and drenched in tears
They laid Him down in Joseph's tomb
The entrance sealed by heavy stone
Messiah still and all alone
O praise the Name of the Lord our God
O praise His Name forevermore
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord oh Lord our God
Then on the third at break of dawn
The Son of heaven rose again
O trampled death where is your sting
The angels roar for Christ the King
He shall return in robes of white
The blazing sun shall pierce the night
And I will rise among the saints
My gaze transfixed on Jesus' face
