Read the sermon text: Isaiah 7-11, 53

Read the sermon summary: The book of Isaiah forecasts a coming destruction that has as its outer limits a destruction that is still occurring and will occur indefinitely. Consequently, the book must address the hope that Israel must also look to for salvation: the hope in a coming human-divine Davidic son, who would be present in the midst of destruction, who would usher in peace, who would carry the weight of governing in a righteous and just manner, and one who would ultimately atone for the sins of his people.
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Joy to The World (Antioch)
Joy to the world the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and heav'n and nature sing
Joy to the earth the Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat repeat the sounding joy
No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as far as the curse is found
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders wonders of His love
