Read the sermon text: Philippians 2:19-30

Read the sermon summary: In this passage, Paul tells the Philippians his plans to send Timothy and Epaphroditus to them. These sorts of travel details often come at the end of a letter instead of in the middle of it. Considering the similar terminology in this passage to the previous sections, it becomes clear that Paul is doing more than simply relaying information. Paul uses this opportunity to highlight Timothy and Epaphroditus as examples of the mindset and service he’s been exhorting the Philippians to. Thus, we should look to their examples that we might pattern our lives after them. As Paul says in Philippians 3:17, “Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.” In preparing for the sermon this Sunday considering the following questions: What makes Timothy stand out as an example of humble service? What do you think it means to seek the interests of Jesus Christ in this context? What makes Epaphroditus stand out as an example of humble service? How can we follow the example of others without idolizing them or becoming law-oriented in our obedience?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Jesus Paid It All
And I hear the Savior say
Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness watch and pray
Find in Me thine all in all
Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow
Lord now indeed I find
Thy pow'r and Thine alone
Can change the leper's spots
And melt the heart of stone
And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete
Jesus died my soul to save
My lips shall still repeat
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow
He washed it white as snow
He washed it white as snow
Oh praise the One Who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
