Read the sermon text: Matthew 21:1-11

Read the sermon summary: Merrian-Webster dictionary defines hope as, "a desire to cherish with anticipation or to want something to happen or be true." The University of North Carolina Basketball team won the National Championship on Monday by defeating Gonzaga. Both teams entered the game with a desire to win they game. They hoped that when the game ended they would cut down the nets rather than walk off the court in defeat. During the last Presidential election, many people hoped the elected individual would change the direction of the country or they hoped the direction of the sitting administration would continue. Men and women voted because they hoped in a person or political platform. In the gospel of Matthew, the Jews hoped that the Messiah would deliver them from the oppressive rule of the Romans. Unfortunately, many of the Jews and even Jesus disciples had a misplaced hope in what the Messiah would do. Just as they had misplaced hopes, it is possible that we have misplaced hopes in what Jesus Christ will do. Join us on Sunday so that the preaching of the Word of God would encourage you to persevere in proper hope and reveal areas of misplaced hope in what Jesus Christ will do.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

O Worship The King
O worship the King all glorious above
O gratefully sing His wonderful love
Our Shield and Defender the Ancient of Days
Pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise

O tell of His might O sing of His grace
Whose robe is the light and canopy space
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form
And dark is His path on the wings of the storm

Chorus
You alone are the matchless King
To You alone be all majesty
Your glories and wonders
What tongue can recite
You breathe in the air
You shine in the light

O measureless might ineffable love
While angels delight to worship above
Thy mercies how tender how firm to the end
Our Maker Defender Redeemer and Friend
