Read the sermon text: 1 Corinthians 6:1-11

Read the sermon summary: One thing that characterizes our culture is the idea that we should get what we deserve. If someone has wronged me, I deserve a full restitution. Justice must be done. Apparently, the Corinthian church insisted upon this as well. In fact, there seems to be evidence that not only were they insisting on their rights, they began using the civil courts as a way to get all they could… even from fellow Christians. But contrary to this approach to life and rights, Paul argues that a better alternative is to simply take the loss. For by doing so, you demonstrate your faith in God’s justice and his promises. For all wrongdoers, Paul says, will be brought to justice. They will not inherit the kingdom of God. And if you have been justified by Christ, you have no need of defrauding your brothers or sisters. In fact, you are freed up by Christ to take a loss, to be defrauded. For in Christ you have become an heir of the kingdom of God. And no rights in this world, no material goods gained can match the glories that await God’s children in his kingdom. In other words, we can gladly take the loss now because we know that in Christ, God has so much more to offer now and in the future and forever.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Nothing But The Blood
What can wash away my sin
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Chorus
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

For my pardon this I see
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
For my cleansing this my plea
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Nothing can for sin atone
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Naught of good that I have done
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

This is all my hope and peace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
This is all my righteousness
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
