Read the sermon text: Zechariah 3:1-4:13; 6:9-15; 8:1-23

Read the sermon summary: Last Sunday as we considered Haggai, we were left with the question, “Would God’s people respond in obedience and righteousness and experience the blessings of the messianic age?” The book of Zechariah answers this question by pointing to what God would do to usher in the messianic age, not in the immediate time, but in the Day of the Lord. The first eight chapters of Zechariah consist mainly of eight visions given to Zechariah. This Sunday, we will consider a few of them, found in the Scripture passages above. These visions show us how and by whom God would establish his kingdom in the last days, thus fulfilling his promises to Abraham and David. We will see that God’s kingdom and promises center on one individual who will rule and intercede on behalf of God’s people. The results of this one’s coming will be the pouring out of God’s Spirit, the obedience of his people, and the nations enjoying the blessings of God as his people.
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Rock Of Ages (Toplady)
Rock of Ages cleft for me
Let me hide myself in thee
Let the water and the blood
From thy wounded side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure
Save from wrath and make me pure
Not the labors of my hands
Can fulfill thy law's demands
Could my zeal no respite know
Could my tears forever flow
All for sin could not atone
Thou must save and thou alone
Nothing in my hand I bring
Simply to the cross I cling
Naked come to thee for dress
Helpless look to thee for grace
Foul I to the fountain fly
Wash me Savior or I die
While I draw this fleeting breath
When mine eyes shall close in death
When I soar to worlds unknown
See thee on thy judgment throne
Rock of Ages cleft for me
Let me hide myself in thee
