Read the sermon text: Psalm 139:1-12

Read the sermon summary: At CCR we exist to love God’s glory, love God’s people, and love God’s world. For our second sermon of the new year we will be considering two more, related, attributes of God… his eternality and his omnipresence. God is eternal and present everywhere. These attributes, along with what we considered last week, God’s aseity, are called incommunicable attributes. That means these belong to God alone and not to us. They describe the altogether other-ness of God as compared with everything else in Creation. In considering these things, we can’t help but be moved to stand in awe of who God is. What’s even more incredible is that this God, totally unbound by space and time, totally above the categories of space and time, entered into space and time so that we might be able to enjoy his glory forever. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: If God is omnipresent (present everywhere), what do we make of the promises in Scripture that God will be with his people? The psalmist says God is present in heaven and in Sheol. How do we make sense of the fact that God is present both in heaven and in hell? How is God’s omnipresence a comfort to the psalmist, and to you? How does this knowledge of God’s omnipresence impact our daily lives?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Behold Our God
Who has held the oceans in His hands
Who has numbered every grain of sand
Kings and nations tremble at His voice
All creation rises to rejoice

Chorus
Behold our God seated on His throne
Come let us adore Him
Behold our King nothing can compare
Come let us adore Him

Who has given counsel to the Lord
Who can question any of His words
Who can teach the One who knows all things
Who can fathom all His wondrous deeds

Who has felt the nails upon His hand
Bearing all the guilt of sinful man
God eternal humbled to the grave
Jesus Savior risen now to reign

You will reign forever
Let Your glory fill the earth
