Worship Preparation: July 10, 2022

Read the sermon text: Deuteronomy 31-32 (especially 32:15-21, 43)
Read the sermon summary: Do you still get jealous? In his song, “Jealous,” Nick Jonas describes the feeling we’ve all had at some point: “I turn my chin music up, And I'm puffing my chest, I'm getting red in the face, You can call me obsessed, It's not your fault that they hover, I mean no disrespect, It's my right to be hellish, I still get jealous.” What about God? Does he get jealous? Though we would have to qualify what it means for God to be jealous, in our passage for this Sunday God is said to have been provoked to jealousy by Israel’s idolatry. Therefore, he would provoke them to jealousy with those who are not a people. We will see that this was God’s design in bringing salvation to people of all nations through a new covenant, one not like the one at Sinai. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: What does the scripture say is the purpose of Moses’s song in chapter 32? What is emphasized in the first part of the song (32:1-14)? In what way can we say that God gets jealous?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Man Of Sorrows
Man of sorrows Lamb of God
By His own betrayed
The sin of man and wrath of God
Has been on Jesus laid
Silent as He stood accused
Beaten mocked and scorned
Bowing to the Father's will
He took a crown of thorns
Oh that rugged cross my salvation
Where Your love poured out over me
Now my soul cries out hallelujah
Praise and honour unto Thee
Sent of heaven God's own Son
To purchase and redeem
And reconcile the very ones
Who nailed Him to that tree
Now my debt is paid
It is paid in full
By the precious blood
That my Jesus spilled
Now the curse of sin
Has no hold on me
Whom the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
See the stone is rolled away
Behold the empty tomb
Hallelujah God be praised
He's risen from the grave
