Read the sermon text: Galatians 4:12-20

Read the sermon summary: When is the last time someone corrected you? How did you respond? From the beginning of the letter to the Galatians, Paul has been correcting his brothers and sisters, often with a sharp tone. In this passage, he reminds them of their love for him and his love for them. He appeals to their mutual affection for one another. Paul recounts how the Galatians received him as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus himself, although he was suffering some sort of trial which could have put them off. But they had changed. “What has become of your blessedness,” he asks. Paul reminds them that his labor for them is based in his love and purposes for them… “until Christ is formed in you.” In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: What does Paul mean that they received him as Jesus Christ himself? How could this idea be misunderstood and misapplied? What is the difference between how Paul “makes much” of the Galatians and how the false teachers do so (v. 17-19)? What do you think it means that Christ is being formed in the Galatians?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Nothing but The Blood (Plainfield)
What can wash away my sin
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Chorus
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

For my pardon this I see
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
For my cleansing this my plea
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Nothing can for sin atone
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Naught of good that I have done
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

This is all my hope and peace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
This is all my righteousness
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
