Read the sermon text: John 7:37-52

Read the sermon summary: In our passage for this Sunday, Jesus gives a gracious invitation and an incredible promise. He invites all who are thirsty to come to him and drink. But his words result in a division among the people. The crowds are divided in their response. The officials are divided from the chief priests and Pharisees. And there is even a division among the Pharisees as Nicodemus attempts to give Jesus a fair hearing. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: What condition is required before coming to Jesus and drinking? What are the two commands given in Jesus’ invitation? What passages from the Old Testament might Jesus be using in the words of his invitation? Within the context of the last few chapters, how might John be connecting this scene to Moses, the Law, and Israel’s wandering in the wilderness?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
O Fount Of Love
O fount of love divine that flows
From my Savior's bleeding side
Where sinners trade their filthy rags
For His righteousness applied
Mercy cleansing ev'ry stain
Now rushing o'er us like a flood
There the wretch and vilest ones
Stand adopted through His blood
O mount of grace to Thee we cling
From the law hath set us free
Once and for all on Calv'ry's hill
Love and justice shall agree
Praise the Lord the price is paid
The curse defeated by the Lamb
We who once were slaves by birth
Sons and daughters now we stand

O well of joy is mine to drink
For my Lord has conquered death
Victorious forevermore
The ancient foe is laid to rest
Hallelujah Christ is King
Alive and reigning on the throne
Our tongues employed with hymns of praise
Glory be to God alone
From Him through Him to Him be all praise
