Read the sermon text: Acts 1:12-26

Read the sermon summary: Last week we began to consider the purpose of the Book of Acts, the ministry of the apostles, and our own calling as Christ’s church.  We saw that God’s plan to redeem his people in Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit through the ministry of the saints cannot be thwarted.  This week we will look at two pictures characterizing how we are to live as God’s people in light of this purpose.  How does our role as Spirit-filled partakers of God’s grace in Christ affect our daily striving to walk in faithfulness to him?  As we seek more fully to understand God’s purpose, let our hope be that we may see more clearly how we ought to think, act, and pray as his church.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Be Thou My Vision (Slane)
Be Thou my vision
O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me
Save that Thou art
Thou my best thought
By day or by night
Waking or sleeping
Thy presence my light

Be Thou my wisdom
Be Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee
And Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father
I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling
And I with Thee one

Be Thou my shield
And my sword for the fight
Be Thou my dignity
Be Thou my might
Thou my soul's shelter
And Thou my high tow'r
Raise Thou me heav'nward
O pow'r of my pow'r

Riches I heed not
Nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance
Now and always
Thou and Thou only
Be first in my heart
High King of heaven
My treasure Thou art

High King of heaven
When vict'ry is won
May I reach heaven's joys
O bright heaven's Sun
Heart of my own heart
Whatever befall
Still be my vision
O Ruler of all
