Read the sermon text: Galatians 2:15-21

Read the sermon summary: Do you remember a time you have stood before a group of others to be evaluated? Perhaps it was in a spelling bee, a final examination, or a courtroom. How did you feel? What did you hope would make you measure up to the standard they were seeking? In our passage for this Sunday, Paul addresses the issue of being evaluated by God. By what measure will he judge you? What will you hope he will see you in? In these verses Paul insists that if one is to be considered righteous before God, it will come through faith in Jesus and not through the works of the law. There are not different paths for different people. The one path that leads to reconciliation with God is faith alone in Christ alone. In preparing for the sermon, consider the following questions: In verse 16, some verses translate the phrase, “through faith in Jesus Christ,” while others translate it, “through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ.” While each of these translations are legitimate options, how might we come to a conclusion to which is more accurate? What is the difference between the two translations? In what ways do you sometimes depend on your own righteousness before God instead of resting in the work of Christ for you?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' Name
Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Saviour's love
Through the storm He is Lord
Lord of all
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil
He is Lord Lord of all
When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne
