Read the sermon text: Psalm 63:5-8; Mark 1:35; Luke 10:38-42

Read the sermon summary: In his book, The Weight of Glory, C.S. Lewis writes, “We live, in fact, in a world starved for solitude, silence, and private: and therefore starved for meditation and true friendship.” If this was true when his book was published in 1941, one wonders what Lewis would think about our current pace of life. However, we should note that the frantic pace of our lives isn’t anything new. Apparently, even Jesus recognized the need to get away from time to time, to rest and enjoy communion with the Father. As we prepare for the season of summer, we would do well to consider how we can incorporate solitude for the purpose of communion with God into our routines. To do so, this Sunday we will consider the rhythm of solitude in the life of Jesus. In preparation for the sermon, spend some time reflecting on your own life with the following questions: When and how often do I spend time alone with God? What is keeping me from spending time alone with God? How might I begin to imitate Jesus in his practice of solitude?
