Read the sermon text: Acts 13:44-52

Read the sermon summary:  In this passage, Paul and Barnabas return to the synagogue at the request of the Jews and devout converts. When the Jews see the crowds that come to hear the message of Paul and Barnabas they get jealous and begin to blaspheme the word of the Lord. Because of this jealousy they seek to cast Paul and Barnabas out of the city. Before they do Paul, points out that he is preaching the gospel to the Jews first by necessity because it is their birthright. However, because they reject the message of the gospel that Paul and Barnabas bring they are actually rejecting the Lord. Because of this, Paul and Barnabas turn to the Gentiles of that city. This passage reminds us of a few things: there is no path to God the Father except through the gospel of Jesus Christ; jealousy and envy are antithetical to the gospel because they are inherently self-focused; and opposition to evangelism is often theological and spiritual and not personal.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Great Are You Lord
You give life You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope You restore ev'ry heart that is broken
And great are You Lord

Chorus
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

And all the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry these bones will sing
Great are You Lord
