Read the sermon text: Acts 14:1-20

Read the sermon summary: Do you ever feel like loving God, loving others, and loving God’s world is difficult? Why is ministry sometimes so hard? Why are we constantly challenged in speaking the good news of Jesus to others? This passage speaks to our frustration as we see Paul and Barnabas attempting to proclaim the good news of Christ. They see great fruit from their work, but they’re also persistently confronted with challenges. Unbelieving Jews poison the minds of the Gentiles. Paul and Barnabas barely escape stoning (at least the first time). Confused crowds try to worship them before being persuaded by some Jews to stone Paul and leave him for dead. We are reminded that there is a spiritual battle going on between God’s people and God’s enemies. It is a battle not of flesh and blood, but for the hearts and minds of people. We’re reminded that bearing witness to Christ isn’t simply some flowery and exotic calling, but often a very difficult one in which we need boldness and persistence, knowing that the Spirit of God will work to change hearts and bring others into his kingdom.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

King Of Kings
In the darkness we were waiting
Without hope without light
Till from Heaven You came running
There was mercy in Your eyes
To fulfil the law and prophets
To a virgin came the Word
From a throne of endless glory
To a cradle in the dirt

Chorus
Praise the Father
Praise the Son
Praise the Spirit three in one
God of Glory
Majesty
Praise forever to the King of kings

To reveal the kingdom coming
And to reconcile the lost
To redeem the whole creation
You did not despise the cross
For even in Your suffering
You saw to the other side
Knowing this was our salvation
Jesus for our sake You died

And the morning that You rose
All of heaven held its breath
Till that stone was moved for good
For the Lamb had conquered death
And the dead rose from their tombs
And the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who'd come
To the Father are restored

And the Church of Christ was born
Then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this Gospel truth of old
Shall not kneel shall not faint
By His blood and in His Name
In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ
Who has resurrected me
