Worship Preparation: December 7, 2014

Worship Preparation – Sunday, December 7, 2014

1. Ways to use this worship preparation:
• Print it out Friday and place it in your bible for the weekend
• Use it as a family devotion and time of prayer on Saturday evening.

2. Read sermon text: Philippians 2:25-30

3. Read sermon summary: This week in Philippians Paul continues his admonishment for the Christians in Philippi to have humility. He writes concerning the messenger Epaphroditus who they sent to serve Paul and his needs. Paul commends Epaphroditus who humbly risked His life for the work of the gospel and encourages the Philippians to do the same.

4. Lord’s Supper: We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper together this Sunday, as we do the first Sunday of each month. In preparation for this visible celebration of the gospel, please take advantage of this time to consider the state of your soul. Resolve conflicts that you have ignored, repent of sins that you have hidden, and take time to consider the great love of a Savior who has reconciled us to God by his death and resurrection.

5. Consider the following song and its relationship to the sermon:

All I Have Is Christ
I once was lost in darkest night Yet thought I knew the way
The sin that promised joy and life Had led me to the grave
I had no hope that You would own
A rebel to Your will
And if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still

But as I ran my hell-bound race
Indifferent to the cost
You looked upon my helpless state
And led me to the cross
And I beheld God's love displayed
You suffered in my place
You bore the wrath reserved for me
Now all I know is grace

Hallelujah all I have is Christ
Hallelujah Jesus is my life

Now Lord I would be Yours alone
And live so all might see
The strength to follow Your commands
Could never come from me
O Father use my ransomed life
In any way You choose
And let my song forever be
My only boast is You
