Worship Preparation: June 8, 2014

Worship Preparation – Sunday, June 8, 2014

1. Ways to use this worship preparation:
• Print it out Friday and place it in your bible for the weekend
• Use it as a family devotion and time of prayer on Saturday evening.

2. Read sermon text: 1 Timothy 6:1-2

3. Read sermon summary: In these first two verses of chapter six Paul is addressing bondservants, and how they should regard their masters with all honor. His reasoning is that if they will do that it will take away another opportunity for God or the teachings of the church to be reviled. Paul's main concern is that the church be a pillar and buttress of the truth. He wants bondservants to add to that mission, not hinder it. As we think about applying these principles to our own life, it means that we should be mindful of all of our actions and behaviors. We have to consider how everything we do and say has some reflection on what we say we believe. Are our lives adding to or hindering God's redemptive purposes in the world?

4. Consider the following song and its relationship to the sermon:

There is Love that came for us
Humbled to a sinner's cross
You broke my shame and sinfulness
You rose again victorious

Faithfulness none can deny
Through the storm and through the fire
There is truth that sets me free
Jesus Christ who lives in me

You are stronger You are stronger
Sin is broken You have saved me
It is written Christ is risen
Jesus You are Lord of all

No beginning and no end
You're my hope and my defense
You came to seek and save the lost
You paid it all upon the cross

So let Your Name be lifted higher
Be lifted higher
Be lifted higher
