Worship Preparation: March 16, 2014

Worship Preparation – Sunday, March 16, 2014

1. Ways to use this worship preparation:
• Print it out Friday and place it in your bible for the weekend
• Use it as a family devotion and time of prayer on Saturday evening.

2. Read sermon text: 1 Timothy 1:12-20

3. Read sermon summary: Paul's instruction here is for Timothy to wage the good warfare. He wants Timothy to fight for the centrality of the gospel. Paul reinforces his charge by giving Timothy the example of two conflicting testimonies. On the one hand, Paul tells his own story, and invites us to marvel over the depths of God's grace and mercy, which has brought Paul from hopeless sinner to servant of God. On the other hand, the false teachers who are adding to the gospel have shipwrecked their faith, and are now handed over to Satan. It is quite a contrast, and highlights the importance of the fight that Paul is asking Timothy to engage. Do we sense the importance of keeping the gospel central and pure? Are we waging the good warfare?

4. Consider the following songs and their relationship to the sermon:

At the Cross
We are singing songs of redemption,
We are Christ's possession
Bought with the precious blood
Given us pardon and forgiveness,
We are freed to love Him
Bought with the precious blood

At the cross, wrath was taken away,
Christ was in our place
Oh what marvelous grace
At the cross, Justice was supplied,
By the blood of Christ,
Forever we will praise

Amazing pity, grace made known to me,
Love beyond all I conceived
Bought with the precious blood
Righteous, now is how He looks at me,
Aroma of Christ to God from me,
Bought with the precious blood
Bridge:
Burdens were lifted away
God caused this heart to awake,
To his glorious grace
Burdens were lifted away
God caused this heart to awake,
He's provided a way

Daniel Renstrom

It Is Finished
Once and for all Once and for all
You offered up Your life
For one and all For one and all
The perfect sacrifice
Atoning blood was shed
Love conquered when You said

It is finished. It is done
To the world Salvation comes
Hallelujah, We're alive
Hell was silenced when You cried
It is Finished! It is Finished!

Who is this King, Who is this King
So mighty and so strong
He is the One, He is the One
the earth has waited for
God's remedy for sin
with mercy for all men

The earth shook and trembled , the sun bowed it's head
the veil of the temple was opened for man as
Jesus went down in the cold of the grave
defeated the darkness when He overcame
the keys of the kingdom were placed into hands
of children and priests and of fishers of men
Through all generations His voice will be heard
creation resounds the victorious words
