Worship Preparation: May 5, 2013

Worship Preparation – Sunday, May 5, 2013

1.  Ways to use this worship preparation

q  Print it out Friday and place it in your bible for the weekend

q  Use it as a family devotion and time of prayer on Saturday evening.

2. Read sermon text: Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (ESV)

3. Read sermon summary: This Sunday marks our One Year Anniversary as a church.  It is hard to believe that we have been meeting in Rolesville for that long.  I want to stop this Sunday, and reflect on why we have come to plant this church.  All of us have had enough time now to find discouragement in the work at hand, but the mission that is before is far greater than the discouragement that we face.  Our Lord, Jesus Christ, has commanded us to go and make disciples, and that is what we are striving to do.  We have come to Rolesville because all authority has been given to him, and we are here to serve, pray, share, and preach to the people in this community about coming of this new Kingdom.  It is a glorious cause, that is worth all the hardship we might face.  This Sunday lets celebrate what God has done in the first year, and look expectantly towards what he will do in the years to come.

4.  Lord’s Supper: We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper together this Sunday, as we do the first Sunday of each month. In preparation for this visible celebration of the gospel, please take advantage of this time to consider the state of your soul. Resolve conflicts that you have ignored, repent of sins that you have hidden, and take time to consider the great love of a Savior who has reconciled us to God by his death and resurrection.

5.  Consider the songs and their relationship to the sermon:

You Alone Can Rescue

And You alone can rescue

You alone can save

You alone can lift us from the grave

You came down to find us led us out of death

To You alone belongs the highest praise

Who O Lord could save themselves Their own soul could heal

Our shame was deeper than the sea Your grace is deeper still

You O Lord have made a way

The great divide You healed

For when our hearts were far away

Your love went further still

Yes Your love goes further still

And You alone can rescue

You alone can save

You alone can lift us from the grave

You came down to find us led us out of death

To You alone belongs the highest praise

To You alone belongs the highest praise

In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my light my strength my song

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled when strivings cease!

My Comforter my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone! - who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless babe!

This Gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied -

For every sin on Him was laid:

Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain

Then bursting forth in glorious Day

Up from the grave He rose again!

And as He stands in victory

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine -

Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me

From life's first cry to final breath

Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till he returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I'll stand!
