Worship Preparation: November 8, 2015

Sunday, November 8, 2015

1. Read the sermon text: James 2:1-7

2. Read the sermon summary: In this passage James condemns showing favoritism because of outward appearance or societal prestige. To do so is to contradict one's own faith in Jesus, the Lord of glory. To do so is to oppose God and his purposes, for God has "chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith" and heirs of his Kingdom. And his Kingdom is promised to those who love the Lord of glory who himself "had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him" (Isa. 53:2).

3. Read the following song lyrics in relationship to the sermon:

Who O Lord could save themselves
Their own soul could heal
Our shame was deeper than the sea
Your grace is deeper still

And You alone can rescue
You alone can save
You alone can lift us from the grave
You came down to find us led us out of death
To You alone belongs the highest praise

You O Lord have made a way
The great divide You healed
For when our hearts were far away
Your love went further still
Yes Your love goes further still

And You alone can rescue
You alone can save
You alone can lift us from the grave
You came down to find us led us out of death
To You alone belongs the highest praise
To You alone belongs the highest praise
You alone

We lift up our eyes
Lift up our eyes
You're the giver of life
We lift up our eyes
Lift up our eyes
You're the giver of life

To You alone belongs the highest praise
To You alone belongs the highest praise
To You alone
