Worship Preparation: October 13, 2013

Worship Preparation – Sunday, October 13, 2013

1. Ways to use this worship preparation
• Print it out Friday and place it in your bible for the weekend
• Use it as a family devotion and time of prayer on Saturday evening.

2. Read sermon text: Read all Genesis 5.

3. Read sermon summary: This week in Genesis 5 we come to a lengthy genealogy, and the question that we will be trying to answer is, "What is God revealing about himself through this list of names?" Well, remembering the bigger story, he is revealing several things. I think the two most important things are connected. First, it is painfully obvious that the curse is having its full impact on each generation, as they die one after another. Sin was going to bring death into the world, and it is certainly doing that. In the midst of this death, and the overwhelming corruption of chapters 4 and 6, we see God preserving a line for his own purposes. God is still moving his plan of redemption forward in the face of some overwhelming opposition, and this should fill us with hope.

4. Consider the songs and their relationship to the sermon:
You Alone Can Rescue
Who O Lord could save themselves
Their own soul could heal
Our shame was deeper than the sea
Your grace is deeper still

And You alone can rescue
You alone can save
You alone can lift us from the grave
You came down to find us led us out of death
To You alone belongs the highest praise

You O Lord have made a way
The great divide You healed
For when our hearts were far away
Your love went further still
Yes Your love goes further still

Christ Is Risen
Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
But fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to Him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely You’ve bled for us

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake, come awake
Come and rise up from the grave

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bowed to none but heaven’s will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer's crown
No burden great can hold You down
In strength You reign
Forever let Your church proclaim

O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?
O church, come stand in the light
The glory of God has defeated the night
O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?
O church, come stand in the light
Our God is not dead, He's alive! He's alive!
