1. Read the sermon text: James 1:19-21

2. Read the sermon summary: In these verses James begins to introduce the theme of how faith works itself out in our horizontal relationships, for loving others is a vital aspect of living righteously before God. But James is after more than simply behavior modification. Rather, he asserts that what is most needed is to humbly receive the word of Christ, the gospel, which has been planted in our hearts. Only then, as this word produces fruit, will we begin to live righteously before God in our relationships with others.
