Worship Preparation: October 21, 2012

Worship Preparation – Sunday, October 21, 2012

1. Ways to use this worship preparation:

Print it out Friday and place it in your bible for the weekend
Use it as a family devotion and time of prayer on Saturday evening.

2. Read sermon text: ESV – Habakkuk. We will study the entire book.

3. Read sermon summary:
The book of Habakkuk is unique in its layout. You almost get the sense that we are reading a few entries in Habakkuk’s daily journal or even that we are able to listen to a few of his prayers as we stand just outside of Habakkuk’s prayer closet. As we listen to Habakkuk, we hear that he is frustrated by all the injustice he is seeing in the world and he is crying out to God. God is responding to Habakkuk with a call to greater faith. We see the culmination of this in the key verse in the entire book - chapter two, verse four. In this verse we are able to hear God tell Habakkuk; “The righteous will live by faith”. Habakkuk was frustrated by his situation and God was calling him to greater faith. We will be looking at what these frustrations are, why God brings them into our lives, and how we are to grow in our faith.

4. Consider the songs and their relationship to the sermon:

Your Grace Is Enough

Great is Your faithfulness oh God
You wrestle with the sinners heart
You lead us by still waters and to mercy
And nothing can keep us apart

So remember Your people
Remember Your children
Remember Your promise
Oh God

Your grace is enough
Your grace is enough
Your grace is enough for me

Great is your love and justice God
You use the weak to lead the strong
You lead us in the song of Your salvation
And all Your people sing along

How Great Is Your Faithfulness

Now unto the King who reigns over all
And never changes or turns
Unfailing justice unfading grace
Whose promises remain
Yes Your promises remain

The heavens ring
The saints all sing
Great is Your faithfulness
From age to age we will proclaim
Great is Your faithfulness
How great is Your faithfulness

Everything changes but You stay the same
Your Word and kingdom endure
We lean on the promise of all that You are
And trust forevermore
We will trust forevermore

From generation to generation
You never failed us O God
Yesterday and today and tomorrow
Until the day You return
