Worship Preparation: September 30, 2012
Worship Preparation – Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012
1. Ways to use this worship preparation:
Print it out Friday and place it in your bible for the weekend.
Use it as a family devotion and time of prayer on Saturday evening.
2. Read text for Sunday: ESV – Jonah. We will the entire book.
3. Read sermon summary:
Jonah is unique among the Minor Prophets because it is the only narrative. It is a story in the middle of books marked by prophecy. The thrust of the book is God’s mercy. God’s mercy is clearly on display both towards the Ninevites and Jonah. We learn that God is patient and faithful even when we are disobedient. We learn that it grieves his heart to see people destroyed by their own sin. We learn, most importantly, that Jonah is merely pointing us towards a greater preacher of redemption, who will lay down his very life to make it possible.
4. Consider the songs and their relationship to the sermon:
At the Cross
We are singing songs of redemption, we are Christ's possession
Bought with the precious blood
Given us pardon and forgiveness, we are freed to love Him
Bought with the precious blood
At the cross, wrath was taken away, Christ was in our place
Oh what marvelous grace
At the cross, Justice was supplied, by the blood of Christ,
Forever we will praise
Amazing pity, grace made known to me, Love beyond all I conceived
Bought with the precious blood
Righteous, now is how He looks at me, Aroma of Christ to God from me,
Bought with the precious blood
Burdens were lifted away
God caused this heart to awake, to his glorious grace
Burdens were lifted away
God caused this heart to awake, He's provided a way
All To Us
Precious cornerstone, sure foundation
You are faithful to the end We are waiting on You Jesus
We believe You're all to us
Let the glory of Your name
Be the passion of the Church
Let the righteousness of God
Be a holy flame that burns
Let the saving love of Christ
Be the measure of our lives
We believe You're all to us
Only Son of God sent from heaven
Hope and mercy at the cross
You are ev'rything
You're the promise
Jesus You are all to us
You're all to us
You're all to us
You're all to us
When this passing world is over
We will see You face to face
And forever we will worship
Jesus You are all to us
Jesus You are all to us
