Worship Preparation: September 7, 2014

Worship Preparation – Sunday, September 7, 2014

1. Ways to use this worship preparation:
• Print it out Friday and place it in your bible for the weekend
• Use it as a family devotion and time of prayer on Saturday evening.

2. Read sermon text: Matthew 22:34-46

3. Read sermon summary: This week we will start a three part series looking at the mission statement of Christ Church Rolesville. Our statement starts, “We exist to love God’s glory.” Of course there is much in scripture that urges us to forsake sin and love God, but the command is explicit in Matthew 22. Here the dual commands of loving God and loving our neighbor are declared to be the foundation of the Law and the Prophets. How though can we keep this command to love God, since we are sinful and far from him? We find that the Pharisees agreed with Jesus that this is the great commandment, but they disagreed on how we can keep the law. Matthew points clearly to a different way of fulfilling the commandment. He wants us to know Christ, the son of David. He is the only true way to love God.

4. Consider the following song and its relationship to the sermon:

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' name

Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior's love
Through the storm
He is Lord
Lord of all

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil

When he shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless, stand before the throne
